British
Champion Steve Colley managed a faultless performance inside the
set time limit of 4 minutes on both laps to win the 1st Round of
the Red Bull Arena Trials Championship organised by Trialstar.
The
indoor RDS Dublin venue for the Irish Motorbike and Scooter Show
was the perfect location, allowing Irelands best the chance to compete
with Trialstar’s Steve Colley. The large crowds came in there
thousands to see what is now the biggest Motorcycle Show in Ireland.
Red Bull rider and Irish Champion Rob Crawford had a disastrous
start to his defence with machine problems forcing him to retire
midway through the 1st lap and despite a brave second lap he was
never in contention. Ulster Champion Andy Perry was first to set
a benchmark score, which gave the remaining guys something to think
about. Local man Southern Champion Michael Burton was the model
of consistency on both attempts, with a steady combined time and
observation; this gave the ‘Iceman’ a deserved runner
up position. Despite Andy’s lightening fast second lap he
had to make do with the final podium place. With Rob in fourth spot,
Robert Andrews ended up fifth but the young 15 yr old is making
giant strides forward and is getting closer to these experienced
stars. He is without doubt Irelands brightest hope for international
success in the world of trials. The interval was all about Sasha
Turkington, the 13yr old Gas Gas UK schoolgirl entertained the public
gallery with a ladies demonstration, which never fails to amaze
all who see her in the Red Bull trials arena.
Date
of 2nd round to be confirmed.
